Dark funeral / Infernal - Under Wings of Hell (2002)

A split for the blackest swedish black metal bands : Infernal - Dark Funeral, demonical speed.
It's hard to describe Infernal's sound other than a faster, heavier and a more brutal version of early Dark Funeral (no doubt most likely due to David Parland's influence in the band ). Pretty good sound overall on all four songs as the two guitars and the drums can be heard clearly and individually. There are some damn good guitar riffs and solos on here, especially in Storms Of Armageddon and Wrath of the Infernal One, graciously supported by Matte Modin's blisteringly tight hyper blast beat drumming. This just rules, pure brutal black metal carnage from one of Sweden's most underrated band.

Purtenance - Member Of Immortal Damnation (1992)

More old Finnish death metal, because this is the stuff you can never have enough of.

Limb Splitter (2006) [Split]

Four-way split featuring Sect Of Execration, Godless Truth, Sarcolytic and Devourment. The only stuff I ever paid attention to is the Cannibal Corpse cover (The Pick-Axe Murders) done by Devourment, which is really good.

Abyssmal Nocturne - From The Astral Abyss (2005)

Abyssmal Nocturne is a band that you may have found out by the childish antics of Nocturnal Overlord and his desire to steal Crimson Moon. Anyways, onto the music and their debut full length. Abyssmal Nocturne is a band that plays black metal in the sense of Crimson Moon, surprisingly... Their style is very similar to Crimson Moon containing the prominent yet not dominant keyboards and the clean vocals that transcends into a ritualistic style of music.
They may not be original but there are differences that will allow you to separate Crimson Moon's To Embrace... and Abyssmal Nocturne's album (AN being the less interesting). The guitars seem a bit thin and a bit empty. The bass isn't very noticeable at times. The vocalist does the simple rasps rather than the signature scratchy raspy vocals of Scorpios.
Overall, I did enjoy this album after a couple listens since I am a big fan of this style of BM and I am not a person that listens to things that are only "original". There are 1000s of Darkthrone clones, so why should this band be considered "unoriginal". Simply, there are differences in the music, and I am looking forward to their new album, regardless of originality.

Abyssmal Sorrow - High-Quality Discography

Abyssmal Sorrow is a fresh name in the funeral doom metal. Great material!

Abyssmal Sorrow EP (2007)
Overall, this album is without a doubt, the best funeral doom metal album I have heard. Yes, it is better than Ahab's "Call of the Wretched Sea." It is that good. Trust me, buy this beautiful work of art. Doom metal fans will not regret this.

Lament (2008)
This album is utter majestic beauty, an intrinsic journey of life's depressed feelings and an existantialistic search for humanity's misery and pain. A certain warmth shines upon this music for all who is willing to see and feel it, and for those who won't... Well, your loss. Abyssmal Sorrow is certainly aiming for top ten material in 2008.

Vomiturition - A Leftover (1995)

Everyone knows old Finnish death metal is one of the best things you can treat your ears with. 'A Leftover' has the gloomy atmosphere typical of the style, yet is surprisingly melodic compared to other DM classics from Finland. Vomiturition featured members of Cartilage (another excellent Finnish DM band from the early 90s) and Rotten Sound (who probably need no introduction) just to mention a few. This album is their first and only full-length, after releasing it they split up. It's consistently good, and rare as it is, I can say it has no bad songs at all. It's pretty much perfect.

Abyssic Hate - Suicidal Emotions (2000)

It’s been said that Abyssic Hate is Burzum worship. Well…it is. But this kills Burzum dead. Right from the start, the misanthropy of this album engulfs the listener. Like Burzum (especially on say Filosofem), this album is repetitive as fuck, so if you don’t like that sort of thing, fuck off and listen to Dream Theater. Abyssic Hate is not for you and they probably hate you anyway. Depression Pt 1 is a plodding, atmospheric, depressing work of art. Like most of the songs on this album, this track screams feelings of despair, rage and loneliness. Betrayal is every bit as good. Now I’m not saying that there’s anything new to be found on this album. Like melodic death metal, black metal is a crowded field that has been beaten into the ground by crapacts and clonery. This album is a nice reminder of what black metal used to be: raw, intense, uncompromising, depressing, dark and all things grim. The tracks on this album are as short as 7 minutes and as long as 17, so if you’re a lamegrind fan with the attention span of a goldfish or a brutal death nerd, get lost. Abyssic Hate are above your complaining and petty mockery.

The Abyss - High-Quality Discography

Formed by the members of Hypocrisy (Swe).

This album is highly recommended, whether you are a fan of old Hypocrisy, or early 90s Scandinavian Black Metal. Either way, you will not be disappointed.
Download

The album is short and to-the-point. It makes you wish that Hypocrisy had split up to focus on this project, since it is much better than their recent output. Hints of this sound can be heard on "Abducted" and "The Final Chapter", both Hypocrisy albums that featured some Black Metal riffs, so for those who were teased by that, I recommend this. This kills everything coming from Sweden around this time, with the exception of the mighty Dissection...

Groovy brutal death from Malta. They're so good we had to post all their stuff multiple times.

Azarath - Praise The Beast (2009)

Unrelenting satanic death metal onslaught from Poland. Tremolo picking and pinch harmonics galore. Even though this is Azarath's cleanest and most well-produced effort, it kind of kills my thoughts that the people who are playing on this CD ever cuddled or loved anyone. This is hateful. This is vile. This is uncompromising. This is awesome and you must get it.

Abysmal Torment - Omnicide (2009) Re-upload

I re-upload and re-post this album because recently I received this CD! So I have made the decision to share it for you! This is high-quality rip from my CD! Just take it! Enjoy!

Let me just start by saying this album is absolutely stunning! Rarely have I been so satisfied. This is the only cd that i have ever been able to listen to all the way through, and remain well focused. This is 45 minutes that will at no part bore you. Honestly, the only reason I don't give this album a 100, is just because I don't give anything a 100.
But on to why Omnicide is so great. First off, it's is one of the most original sounding cd's I have ever heard, with completely unique vocals, guitar tones, and drums. Very creative. Terrific recording and sound quality I might add. Also, it's very easy to just let the cd play through because it's always changing. Not in genre, but tempos, beats, riffs etc... Because it's frequently changing it gives the album a very diverse feel, and is constantly changing directions. And there is just never a dull moment in this cd.
Talk about heavy, Omnicide has some serious weight to it. This album dominates your ears with an overwhelming, powerful, and just a superbly sludgy sound (One of the guys is even wearing a Disgorge shirt in their picture, so I think we know where they get that awesome sludge from!). Great energy! Everything in this albums fits perfectly, the drums, guitars, and vocals. Nothing seems out of place. Don't be mislead by my word choice though; in this genre, everything is putrid and ugly (but isn't that why it's so beautiful?).
I strongly recommend buying this cd to just about anybody who likes death metal. Even my friends who don't like metal as heavy as I do can't disagree that this cd is very entertaining and fun to listen to.
Buy it!!! (© Metal-Archives, by october1918)

Abysmal - The Pillorian Age (1995)

One of the most underrated bands to come out of the Norweigan black metal scene, Abysmal released one excellent album and then promptly split up. Damn shame too, because this is really quite unique stuff. Abysmal played a twisted blend of black/doom, which is really unlike pretty much any band. This album is more of the more obscure sounding albums ever, not obscure in the sense of it being a demo limited to 50 copies, but obscure in the sense of music that would eminate from some malicious looking fog rolling through a forested valley. The band's career (this album and the demo, the demo I have not heard at the time of this writing) is a loose concept told out of order. One of the techniques that these guys perfected is building up on previous riffs. Listening to this album on headphones is recommended, as the bass weaves in and out with the guitar and drums to create a haunting atmosphere. Really the only thing I could compare this to would be the first Bethlehem album, but even then that comparison would be slightly inaccurate, as these guys have much more of a 'mystical' and occult feel than Bethlehem ever did. Fans of ambience in their black metal would do good to track this overlooked release down.

Ingested - Surpassing The Boundaries Of Human Suffering (2009)

Really good brutal death from the UK. Mixes standard Disgorge-style brutal death with midtempo grooves a la Skinless, occasional slams and a hint of modern DM with chugs and pinches.

Wormrot - Abuse [2009]

I could copy paste the NFO from the file (NFO's are awesome, btw) but I'll humor myself. This is grindcore. Oldschool, classy, original, the way it was meant to be grindcore. Twenty-three tracks, most don't break a minute. The production is clean, the agression is there. It's good. Hop on the dick train! WOoO WOooo!
Oh, did I mention there is a "Yeah Yeah Yeahs" cover.. hiiiilarious.
Grindcore in the vein of: Phobia, Magrudergrind.

Antropomorphia - Necromantic Love Songs (1993)

A short, yet beautiful EP from a Dutch death metal band with a theme closely connected to indulgence in necrophilia, necrophagia and other fascinating activities. A brilliant, still overlooked release.

Abusiveness - Hybris (2007)

Complexity is not something I usually associate with black metal, but Abusiveness is complex and raw at the same time. Honestly There's very few black metal bands that can favorably compare to my favorite death metal bands, but holy fuck if Abusiveness doesn't come about as close as possible. This album is truly remarkable. Many thanks go to Abusiveness for creating this atmospheric black metal opus. Certainly a nearly flawless release.

Abusiveness - Krzyk Œwitu (2002)

This is one of the best atmospheric black metal albums I have EVER heard. So throw out your little Arcturus albums and get a hold of this.

From My Cold Hands - Если ты забыл цену жизни [2009]

I don't know what the album title says, so I'll wait for Targoth (since I'm preeeeeeety sure it's Russian). However, what you have here is some deathcore.. a "...moshable/deathcore band from Saint-Petersbourg, Russia" [myspace]. The pace various between tracks keeping at a pretty good chug to appeal to both it's hardcore and death metal basis. Some tracks can get a lil ambient, but overall it's on target.
course when ya look at the myspace, it's pretty bro-tastic.

Figure I of all contribs here should post this. It's better then genesis I will say that from my quick overview. The band now, or is labeled to tout, the new "technical" feel. Is it? Is it really? YOU DECIDE.. Don't bother "omfg sucks" or "omfg scene" just go watch an episode of House or something instead.
The cover is kinda bitchin' sweet though.

Abused Majesty - ......so Man Created God in His Own Image (2008)

Second full-length from this group. More evil and dark! Really fast and brutal death/black from Poland!

Abused Majesty - Serpenthrone (2004)

Abused Majesty plays the combination of uncompromising black metal and melody , more quiet moments and a really good composition of the songs. My compatriot didn't make it easy for themselves, because for this debut record, 'Serpenthrone', they immediately decided to make it a concept album (based on a Polish myth about a serpent king). As the CD progresses, the similarities with Emperor become less striking, especially the solos are too conventional. But this isn't necessarily a bad thing because together with the very present keyboards and the three different vocalists that are used, it gives Abused Majesty a distinctive identity of their own. We're going to hear a lot more of this band if they continue the path they have chosen. Excellent release. I could recommend this relese to all Emperor and Dimmu Borgir fans. © Metal-Archives, by Apollyn)

Abramelin - Transgression From Acheron EP (1994)

The recording kicks off with a brooding obscure intro, plucked from John Carpenters’ cult sci-fi horror movie, THE THING. After about a minute and a half of this, the down tuned death onslaught surges from the speakers with the first track, ‘Human Abattoir’. Both guitars have a different sound quality. They are separated in each speaker. One comes across as bright, while the other is thick and chunky. When combined they sound heavy and crunchy at the same time. The music on this track has heaps of palm muted guitar riffs then breaks into a sonic blast. The drummer almost unable to keep up with himself! The snare drum is high tuned and further ads to the grind quality of the band. But having said that, this recording is definitely all about dark themes and macabre torture. The vocals are really inhuman and unclear. It gives them a mysterious and evil vibe. Lead guitarist Tim even finds time to do some exceptional solos. Real melodic and lyrical. And the mid section of ‘Dearly Beloved’ is a haunting triumph. The guitars paint a picture of a graveyard exhumation, or dank coffin chamber in your mind… you can imagine the fog creeping in from an unknown source. That is how it makes you feel.
To finish this up, I would say that when you’re in the mood for some macabre, dark death metal… play this baby and you'll soon be dreaming of disturbing blood soaked torture. It works for me. (© Metal-Archives, by hastings)

Abramelin - Abramelin (1995)

Abramelin's first full-length album under that name (they'd originally been called Acheron) is a gem of utter brutality - death metal the way it was meant to be played. This album combines the utter ferocity and melodic sensibility of early Dismember with the morbid, yet classy lead guitar work of Carcass' Necroticism and the speed of Vader, but not without adding their own very distinctive sense of unpredictability (not just in the layout of the songs, but also in the unexpected but oddly fitting cover of Dead Can Dance's "Cantara" as the album's closer.)

Devian - Ninewinged Serpent (2007)

If you like marduk, you nedd to listen this great album. Formed by Legion and Emil in 2006. Originally called Rebel Angels, then Elizium, and finally went to Devian after they found Elizium had been used too many times, and the new name sounded more mysterious and sinister.
Now by know means is this album groundbreaking in any way, however it is one of those albums that has a basic formula that is done to perfection. The formula is quite simple but effective. Take a somewhat technical intro, add some thrashy riffs with a dark overtone, add a dash of on pace drumming, and finally Legion's signature vocal style and listen for just over 45 minutes and you have the recipe for a good album.

Esbbat - Dentro del Esbbat (2005)

Great Black metal from Colombia this is one of the most powerful bands inthe colimbian scene, blast guitar and drums makes a very rare piece of the metal from latin america.

From Wisdom To Hate (2001)

Out of spontaneous drunken judgment, I've decided that the blog needs more obscure, old death metal gems. Since noone really give a shit about these excellent pieces of audial awesomeness except lifeless, basement-dwelling nazi elitists, I'll try my best to keep a steady supply of them uploaded from now on.

So, about Gorguts. I think they need no introduction, they are one of the more well-known masters of 'obscure' death metal. The eerie atmosphere of their songs sometimes passes the borders of death into something closer to avant-garde, and might seem quite bizarre even for fans of the genre. Obscura is their most well known release, and is regarded as their magnum opus. Considered Dead is more like proper death metal, while The Erosion Of Sanity is in between the two, and is also respected as a classic. I'd describe From Wisdom To Hate as a more listenable version of Obscura, I think it's a lot more accessible for those unfamiliar with the other, more unorthodox efforts of Gorguts. Whichever album you choose to take a stab at first, you won't just be listening to some random new br00tal band some guy on the internet told you to check out, but a whole new dimension of death metal.

Moonfog - Cadaveric Changes (2007)

An animated gif on their myspace prefectly describes Moonfog's music: 'Mind Blowing Technical Brutal Death'. I don't think there's much to add to that. Cadaveric Changes is a concept album dealing with death, in the biological sense. The songs are titled after the signs of death, and the lyrics were probably copy-pasted from some Slovakian anatomy book. The album is merely over half an hour, and sounds like way more blasts and riffs a regular person can handle condensed into one CD. The instrumental performance is outstanding and the amount of hooks is amazing, the songs are very complex and elaborate, yet still captivating in their own, twisted way. This is an overlooked gem of death metal. I also wanted to point out that Death Spots is probably the best song ever written, so...yeah.

Abomino Aetas - Sower of Death (2008)

ABOMINO AETAS doesn't indulge in frills or the Avant-garde. They accomplish their craft by sticking to basics, and in any genre of Metal that starts with writing quality riffs. This album is full of engaging melodies and chord progressions, all played in traditional structures, but sounding fresh as ever. Hateful vocals spill over vibrant, emotive guitar tones. Who cares if these guys are late to the game; originality isn't always requisite to quality. (© Metal Observer)

Avulsed - Nullo (The Pleasure of Self-mutilation) (2009)

Compared to the recent Avulsed efforts, Nullo is mediocre. Not as catchy and a bit dull at times, doesn't get you hooked immediately like Yearning For The Grotesque. Not sure what else I can say, I gave it only one listen. Not as good as I expected but worth a try.

Balrog - Kill Yourself (2001)

This is black metal as black metal should be done. It's hateful, aggressive, intimidating, and a mouthful of hate. Everything about this eminates pure black evil; the sound is akin to apocalyptic warfare. The drums are akin to minigun and m-16 fire, the guitars are akin to fire ripping across the sky, and the vocals bombs raining down upon the doomed world.

An obscure band from the past, Skeleton Of God play some of the weirdest blend of psychedelic & death metal you'll probably hear. This is a very very rare album, dark black metal with acoustic rythms and scariest screams, pure black metal from the inside of Germany, In my opinion its one of the best albums of this genre.

Ashen Light - Compassion To The Outcast, Hell To The Convicted (2003)

The gods of brutal death metal are still alive and have something new for us. Blood Oath is the name of this new effort. In all probability, it won't even approach the greatness of their old classics, but it's worth giving a try to say the least.

Ataque Nuclear - Thrashback From Hell (2008)

Ataque Nuclear Is a great band from the east of Brazil, it's the new wave of brazilian thrash after Sepultura, the sound of Ataque Nuclear its like D.R.I. , A few of First albums of Sepultura and another rare things, its an amazing album.

Nocturnal Breed - Aggressor (1997)

1349 - Revelations of the Black Flame [2009]

This new effort is more 'atmospheric' and the what not. From the quick listen over I've given it, I'd say with a bit more "old sk00l raw lo-fi BM" stuff.
Don't expect a "Hellfire Part Deux" though, for this does not deliver in that similarity.
Again... Totally up to you guys.
