Soilent Green - Inevitable Collapse In The Presence Of Conviction (2008)

Soilent Green are well known for their unique sound that could be roughly described as a mix of sludge, and grind influenced death metal. Their new album isn't much different, it's loaded with sludgy riffs, and it's consistently groovy and catchy. No songs are particularly outstanding, the whole album maintains an enjoyable groove throughout every song. The only change to the sound I noticed is a slight hardcore influence and less death metal influence, especially in the vocals. I recommend the new album for everyone who enjoys southern sounding metal mixed with death.

Prostitute Disfigurement - Descendants Of Depravity (2008)

New album of the Dutch brutal death band. The new album sounds different from the previous ones, the vocals being the main change. "Traditional" death growls have replaced the guttural vokills, creating a less extreme tune. Descendants Of Depravity won't push the boundaries of brutality in brutal death, but is a good modern death metal album nonetheless.

Grandiose melodies and outstanding musicianship are the first things that come to my mind when thinking of Arsis. I doubt they've done a single bad album, everything since A Celebration Of Guilt is top-notch. Every song has a unique feeling. Complex yet memorable, they're balanced and form a strong album as a whole. Being slightly pretentious might be the weakpoint in their music for some, but in my opinion this is Being slightly pretentious might be the weak point in their music for some, but in my opinion this is exactly how such grandiose tunes should sound like.

Belphegor - Bondage Goat Zombie (2008)

Austrian blackened death feaks are back to pulverize you with their new album. The title looks like something stolen from Impaled Nazarene, but cheesiness was always there with Belphegor. Luckily, the music was always good enough to compensate. I haven't listened to it yet, but I'm sure it's the same case here.

In Flames - A Sense Of Purpose (2008)

I found this today... I have mixed feelings about In Flames. You gotta admit, they've been doing a lot of shitty music lately. And folks, I'm not gonna lie, I think this sucks ass terribly. I haven't listened to it yet and I'm not that curious because I lost interest years ago, but I'll give it a try someday. I'm still quite afraid of being frightened by what I'm going to hear. I mean just look at the cover. You can't judge music by the album's cover, but in this situation I think they kinda match. This band is beyond redemption. Well, have fun with it anyway. Maybe somebody will enjoy this.

Arghoslent - Hornets Of The Pogrom (2008)

Being a huge fan of Incorrigible Bigotry, I've been awaiting the release of this album with great enthusiasm. As of today, it's been out for over a week, but still no CD rips floating around for download. I've been checking for quite a few days but absolutely no sites or forums have it... till now. Yesterday while discussing Arghoslent on soulseek, somebody mentioned that he has their new album, and I had an opportinity to download it. I immediately grabbed it and gave it a listen. It's just what I expected: death metal with an epic feel, incredibly melodic and bearing a strong integrity. The songs are all quite memorable, and the melodies are irresistible. Hornets Of The Pogrom was well worth waiting for, it's excellent all-over, it has no weakpoint - except maybe some of the lyrics and the bigoted racistic ideology behind the music, but I say fuckit, enjoy the music when it's this awesome. You need this, right now.

Amputated - Gargling With Infected Semen (2006)

UK brutal death band. Huge amounts of grooves and pulverizing riffs here. The songs are quite simplistic for brutal death, some are almost slammy, but their structure is different than that of typical slam death songs. Gurgling growls spiced up with high-pitched screams, simple and catchy riffs, gore/pornographic related samples form the main characterictics of the album.

Monstrosity - Millenium (1996)

Florida death metal. This isn't quite a recent album, it's their second full-length to be exact. Not sounding faint and weakly produced, not overpolished, just rough enough to fit the music. Not uncontrollably brutal, not entirely groovy or catchy, but keeps a good balance throughout the album. Technical, but not full of unnecessary wankery. Corpsegrinder from Cannibal Corpse used to do vocals in this band, he also sings on this album. Millenium is a fine example of good Florida death, if you like the style, you won't be disappointed.

Circle Of Dead Children - Human Harvest (2003)

Circle Of Dead Children are a pretty interesting deathgrind band, their style isn't really comparable to anything. Songs range from 6 seconds to several minutes. The atmosphere is indescribable, and varies in every song - there's blasting brutality interchanging with slow, doomy bludgeoning, accompanied with some of the most awesome vocals in extreme metal. Joe Horvath's voice might be hard to get used to for some, but in my opinion he is one of the best. The lyrics also need to be mentioned: while the music manages to be brutal, filthy, and disgusting, the lyrics are beautiful poetry. CODC are not your typical run of the mill deathgrind band. Some might find it hard to get into them, I wasn't hooked by the first listen either, but they're outstanding in many aspects, and take some time to comprehend.

Gorguts - Obscura (1998)

tscd666 says: Too twisted for being called avantgarde, too extreme for what is being comprehend as extreme in metal. Obscura's musicality and invention has remained unbound and hard to surpass by anyone till nowdays and for the future probably as well. It's an album that raises nothing but respect and doesn't matter if it's because you love it or hate it. And better you like it, nigtmares are always disastrous... Dare to try and find the light through a quest of immense obscurity in its most complex form? There's no joy without suffering, you know!
