Amon Amarth

Amon Amarth is a viking-themed melodic death metal band from Sweden founded in 1992 in Tumba, named after a location in J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle - earth. The name means "Mount Doom" in Sindarin.
Formed under the name Scum, they switched to the name Amon Amarth in 1992 and released a demo recording, The Arrival of the Fimbul Winter, in 1994, selling all 1000 demo discs in less than 12 hours. With the release of the album Once Sent From the Golden Hall in 1998 their popularity rose on an international level and since has brought four multiple U.S. tours, two music videos and appearances in over 100 metal magazines.

Impaled Nazarene is a Finnish black metal band with thrash metal influences founded in 1990. They combine black metal with elements from thrash metal, heavy metal and hardcore. The band is signed to Osmose Production of France. The band have for most of their history displayed extreme Finnish nationalism. In an interview with Metallian in 2006 the band addressed and clarified their nationalistic reputation.
The band has been infamous for seeming to hate the Norwegian Black Metal scene back in the early 90s (nowadays, the band seems to disassociate with such hatred). They also stopped wearing corpse paint in the mid 90s due to it being "too trendy", but in recent shows, they began wearing it again.

David Gilmour’s solo career hasn’t exactly been creatively restless; this is but the third album by the Pink Floyd guitarist, and first in 18 years. Kalmah

Kalmah was formed in 1992, originally as Ancestor, and changed named to Kalmah in 1998 shortly before their first demo, followed by two albums. Musically, any Finnish band who fuses classically influenced keyboard-laced power metal with harsh vocals invites comparisons to Children Of Bodom, and true enough that's the best reference point for Kalmah. They are certainly not a COB clone, rather a band in the same ballpark stylistically speaking. The musicianship and arrangements here are top-notch, while Pekka Kokko's vocals are venomous enough if not particularly distinctive (many Swedish and Finnish bands have similar vocal styles these days). This is a band on the rise, and one that is quite recommended.

Rudra - The Aryan Crusade (2001)

Rudra is a four piece "vedic metal" band, a term they coined themselves to describe the unique brand of metal music they play. "The Aryan Crusade" is the band's sophomore effort and brings with it lineup changes. Two members of the original quartet remain, Kathi (bass/vocals) and Shiva (drums). Bala and Alvin (both on guitars) have been replaced by Kannan and Selvam. All members are of Indian descent and live in Singapore, where the band is based.

Apocalyptica

Apocalyptica is a Finnish music band consisting of three (formerly four) classically - trained cellists and, since a couple of years, a drummer. All former students of the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland, their speciality is heavy metal music on cellos, though they also play classical music.
They started by playing covers of Metallica, but once the concept became popular they wrote their own original works, maintaining the heavy metal influences on their albums Inquisition Symphony and Cult. With Reflections they somewhat deviate from their previous Cello rock, insisting on a more electric sound instead of their previous exotic acoustic arrangements.

Napalm Death

Napalm Death is a grindcore/death metal band formed at Solihull School near Birmingham, England in 1982 by Miles Ratledge and Nicholas Bullen, originally under the name of Civil Defence. They are credited by many with having invented the grindcore genre though the band quit this style after their first two albums and became a death metal band. The band has no original members left. In fact, their history has been one of constant member rotation and by the first side of Scum, their debut album, the drummer, Mick Harris, was the only original member remaining.
Members of Napalm Death have moved on to form bands such as Carcass, Godflesh, Cathedral, and Scorn. Additionally band members have formed numerous side projects, including Painkiller, Brujeria, Lock Up, Meathook Seed and Jesu.

The Gathering

The Gathering is a Dutch band which came to fame in the second half of 1990s with its unique blend of atmospheric, almost ambient sound, and the compelling vocals of the passionate Anneke van Giersbergen.
Their first two albums, Always... (1992) and Almost a Dance (1993), played a part in the formation of gothic metal, which were recorded with four different vocalists. Their subsequent release, Mandylion (1995), on which Anneke van Giersbergen sang for the first time, was a dark, haunting, and emotional piece of music. It was also one of the first albums of its kind in respect to female fronted metal bands, and it is still considered a standard by many.
Their following studio albums Nighttime Birds (1997), How To Measure A Planet? (1998), If Then Else (2000) and Souvenirs (2003) showed progress and maturation of the band. Sleepy Buildings, released in 2004, is a live semi-acoustic performance recorded by the band over a course of two nights.

Bathory 12 albums

Bathory must be considered a major influence, either directly or indirectly, on virtually every black metal band in the last decade. It was Bathory, along with Venom, who helped pioneered the raw death/black style and gutteral vocals that are now standard in the genres. Basically a one-man band (with a scattered few early-career exceptions), Bathory's work have run the gamut from more simplistic Venom-ish fare (first two albums, the debut in particular) to a more epic, Manowar-ish style, steeped in Norse mythology, on much of the middle and later albums, to a more thrash-based style on releases such as Octagon. Quorthon (the man himself) has also recorded apart from the Bathory name, releasing two albums under the name Quorthon, said to be very un-Bathory-like. The latest releases is the two part Nordland effort, with part one released in 2002 and its followup released earlier in 2003. A new album was expected to be recorded in 2004, but with Quorthon's unfortunate and unexpected passing, this would appear not to happen.
